Health LinQ
Take A Tandem Leap With Us Into The World Of Health Data...
Health LinQ is part of the Queensland branch of the federally funded Population Health Research Network. The centre was established in 2009 to facilitate access to linked administrative data and to provide consultation services to researchers who will be using this data. We also conduct our own data-driven research that informs policy and serves to improve the health of Australians.
Our research draws on a rich set of linked databases that are currently available in the state of Queensland. We ask questions about whether policies and interventions are effective and provide the best value possible. Our research also investigates the impact of policies on marginalized populations and addresses issues dealing with the performance and accountability of public agencies.
While studying health outcomes, all the relevant information is rarely found in one place. Data linkage allows us to use a wide range of information that we might otherwise not have been able to include if we were only utilizing one source. In Queensland, we are currently developing linkage maps that will permanently link core datasets within the states and across Australia. These include data on hospital admissions, perinatal records, and data on births, deaths, and marriages.
